CERN has been a Linux reliant laboratory for a long time. Below is a very interesting video in which two CERN employees discuss migrating the computers controlling CERN's particle accelerators from Red Hat Enterprise Linux to Debian (both Linux operating systems).

Some highlights of the video:

• Emacs is included as one of the possible operating systems to consider for the migration (9:41 in the video). This is an old but still good joke.
• Computers used by scientists operating CERN's accelerators in control rooms use AlmaLinux (ALMA 10) with the Xfce desktop (25:10 in the video). I've been using the Xfce desktop for many years.
• The computers used in CERN's gigantic data center will probably move to ALMA 10 (25:50 in the video).
• The computers controlling CERN's particle accelerators will all be migrated over to Debian by December, 2026.
