Yet Another Useless Opinion Survey

This survey, like most other surveys querying people for their opinions, gives only a superficial appearance of telling us something useful. The hard work of actually figuring out the truth about reality is completely absent from this horrid thing. It is good that there exist various theories which attempt to explain a variety of aspects of reality, but the popularity of those theories is irrelevant to science, and determining the popularity of each theory requires no intellectual effort and is a big waste to time.

I could always tell when the work of a committee on which I was serving would amount to nothing. This was immediately obvious when the other committee members voted to do a survey of faculty. I'd rather jump into a pit full of starving crocodiles than to conduct a survey which ends up supporting the most mediocre course of action.

My disdain for surveys which involve querying people for their opinions goes further than towards surveys conducted by faculty committees. An opinion survey is only good for idiotic TV shows like Family Feud and other trivialities which rely on the provincial and mediocre or worse. You won't find the beautiful or the unexpected or the weird or anything nice and interesting in the results of an opinion survey.
